Finding resilience, courage and true voice through loss and identity with Florence Ọlájídé
Welcome back! Today we are speaking to Florence Ọlájídé.
Florence, a Nigerian born in Britain, was privately fostered by a white family before being taken to Nigeria by her parents
Florence's story is a powerful narrative of overcoming loss, loneliness, poverty, maltreatment, and fighting for education. It’s a moving, uplifting and incredibly inspiring story of finding resilience, courage, and true voice even through loss and identity.
Florence’s memoir, Coconut, has received rave reviews and was also featured on the Graham Norton Bookclub. Her second book, the Stolen Daughter, is a historical fiction novel that was inspired after discovering a family secret of one of her ancestors being forced into slavery.
Florence was shortlisted to attend Penguin Random House’s WriteNow London workshop in 2018.
